Mia Fairley is a mother of three, a high school teacher and sledge hockey coach with the Paralympic Sports Association. Her eldest child was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus in 1993. Since then, she has been an active advocate for persons with disabilities. Mrs. Fairley has served on numerous committees including the Association for Community Living and the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association, as well as working as media coordinator for the National Spina Bifida Conference.
Mia is pursuing her coach's certification and has attended training sessions for the Long Term Athlete Development program. Mia and her husband are extremely active volunteers, and both have their level 2 official's course for Alpine Skiing. Her husband currently organizes and coaches the grassroots racing program for Edmonton CADS (Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers).
Mia's commitment to supporting active lifestyles for persons with disabilities means leading by example and getting involved.
